National Voters Day observed across Nagaland

Various districts in Nagaland joined the rest of the nation in observing the 5th National Voters Day January 25. Started January 25, 2011 to mark Commission’s foundation day, the Centre decided to celebrate January 25 every year as ‘National Voters’ Day’ in order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process.
In Kiphire district, National Voter’s Day was observed at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner (DC) office, Kiphire with DC& DEO Kiphire, A Chumremo Odyuo as special guest.
Addressing the gathering, the DC &DEO said the day was observed to provide opportunity to voters to contribute for free and fair election in electioneering process. 
Citing the benefit of attending the voter’s day, DC&DEO said fresh voters were given an opportunity to get themselves sensitized on the right and duties and also gives an opportunity to increase the voters. The special guest also handed over the award to the best BLO in both 59 & 60 A/Cs and also to the winner of the essay competition besides handing over EPIC to new voters.
The special guest also led in reading the election pledge.
Dr. Tinojunghsi Chang, SDO (C) & ERO, who delivered a keynote address, said election process is an ongoing process to give opportunity for new voters to get themselves enrolled and also exercise their rights. He also said the objective of the voter’s day is to enhance the quality of Indian democracy.
Disclosing that altogether 1199 voters have enrolled in both the assembly constituencies in the special revision, the ERO said Kiphire has only 1% is left to be enrolled. Benjamin Longkap, EAC and AERO, chair the programme, and Nathan Konyak, AEO proposed vote of thanks.

MON: Deputy commissioner (DC) and district election officer (DEO) Mon, Angau I Thou, who graced the occasion as chief guest at DCs’ office meeting hall, asserted every responsible citizen was icon and ambassador in disseminating the information on democratic rights of the people. She also appealed to all responsible be aware of the day for greater participation of the electoral roll once they reached the age of 18 years.
DC & DEO Mon pointed out that the main focus of observing the day was compulsory enrolment of eligible voters and to vote in every election fearlessly. Thou urged the gathering to be a proud voter ready to vote in every election.
Later, DC gave away the prizes to the winners of the essay competition and to the participating students as well. She also led the voter’s Pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of the country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections. GPS Kongan village assistant teacher Hautick was awarded the best BLO.
MOKOKCHUNG: National Voters day was observed at Town Hall Mokokchung with Ao Senden  president Prof. Sangyu Yaden as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest stated that National Voters day has indeed borne good result which was evident in the increase in the numbers of voters.
He also urged upon all eligible citizens to register as voters and vote with pride in every election thereby creating a vibrant democracy in the country.
During the programme, the chief guest presented award to booth level officers, winners of essay and marathon competition, felicitated new voters in administered voters’ pledge.
Earlier, short speech was also delivered by addl. deputy commissioner & electoral registration officer Bendanglila.
TUENSANG: National Voters Day was held at DC’s Conference hall Tuensang with DC & DEO Tuensang, Alem Jongshi as chief guest.
In his speech, DC &DEO challenged the gathering that one should not misuse their voting right, adding that it was this right that enabled one to choose the leader of one’s choice.
Chief guest also deliberated on right voting and its advantages in the development of holistic field.
ADC & ERO Tuensang Robert Longchari who administered the pledge of the National Voters day also stressed on the change of the people mindset comparing to that of the previous years. He further encouraged the people to keep on changing towards the positive goals.
Felicitation of the newly enrolled voters, awards to the best BLOs and the awards to the winners of essay competition organized by the district election office was given away by the chief guest.
ZUNHEBOTO: Held on the theme, ‘easy registration easy correction’, National Voters Day was observed in Zunheboto at DC’s conference hall.
DC & DEO Zunheboto,  Temsu Longkumer gave keynote addressed where he highlighted on the system of easy registration, easy correction of voters especially the new voters. He called upon all to avail the facilities and participate, franchise and keep the democracy alive.
The programme included distribution of Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to the new young Registered voters, a voters pledge was conducted by EAC hq Kemciyile and prize distribution on Systematic Voters Education Electoral Participation (SVEEP), Essay competition, which was held on October 30, 2014. 1st prize was won by Khenishe from Woodland HSS Zunheboto, 2nd prize by Zinika from Woodland HSS, Zunheboto and 3rd prize by Limika from Govt HSS, Zunheboto.
PUGHOBOTO: National Voters Day (NVD) was observed in Pughoboto sub-division at ADC office compound January 25 graced by ADC & DEO Pughoboto, Nokchasashi as chief guest. Emphasizing on the importance of the day, Nokchasashi said one should know the value of vote and exercise their vote fearlessly in a real democratic way.
He also cautioned the new voters not to sell out their precious vote as Christians.
The function was attended by the representatives from different NGOs, political parties, GBs, DBs and government officials.
On the occasion, the best booth level officer (BLO) was awarded to a government teacher Qhehuli Sheqi. The election department also organised a tug of war competition to mark the National Voters Day.
PHEK: National Voters Day (NVD) was celebrated at at DPDB conference hall Phek district headquarter with DC & DEO Phek, Murohu Chotso as chief guest.  In his speech, DC & DEO advised the newly enrolled voter that they were no more a child but would be taking responsibility to participate in democratic State.
He explained how to maintain a clean election in the state and be free & fair in the election process as true Christians.
On the occasion, chief guest gave away the prizes to the winners of the district level essay writing competition 2014.  Following persons bagged awards: Kukhrunehu Sapuh (First position) Divito Vese (second) and Rukshyeyi Rakho (third) and best BLO certificate was awarded to Sovese Nienuh and also EPIC card/badge to the newly enrolled voters. The chief guest also administered the NVD pledge.
PEREN: Peren district observed National Voters Day at Town Council Hall Peren with SDO (C) Robin as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, SDO (C) called upon the young people especially those who attained the age of 18 years to get themselves registered and be a part in democratic election.
He exhorted the gathering that in democracy one must fear no one to exercise their franchise.
The prize for best BLO was given to N. Saulak. 6 Tening A/C and Samuel Rongmie 7 Peren A/C.
