National Voter’s Day observed across Nagaland

Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland observed National Voters’ Day on January 25 at various district headquarters, sub divisions and departments with the theme, “Inclusive and Qualitative Participation”
DC and DEO Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome administered the voter’s pledge at Lotha Hoho Ki.  Chief Guest of the occasion, Editor, Nagaland Page, Monalisa Changkija in her address described National Voter’s Day as a sacred day in any self- respecting democracy. She underscored two aspects of National Voter’s Day- importance of the voter and the importance of voting and uniqueness of democracy as a system of governance and a culture of a people which hinges on the voter and her right and duty to vote. 
Touching on the theme, Monalisa said that women were totally excluded from the process of decision making in the context of Nagaland. She said that this general practice prevailing in Nagaland negates the very essence and ethos of modern democracy.
Delivering the key note address, Kesonyu observed that free and fair election would start from e-roll and regretted that in Nagaland context e-roll itself was “questionable”. He also emphasized on enrolment of eligible voters for enhancing the sanctity of electoral participation. Reminding that special summary revision was not only about addition but deletion too, Yhome said that every right thinking citizen has the responsibility to report to the appropriate  authority when a family member expires.
KOHIMA: In Kohima, secretary home, Bendangkokba administered the pledge to the gathering, stated DIPR report. Earlier, in his introductory message, the secretary appreciated the direction of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to uphold the democratic traditions of the country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections without being influenced by religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement.
MOKOKCHUNG: National Voters Day was also observed at Town hall, Mokokchung, where DC and DEO Mokokchung, Sushil Kumar addressed the gathering.
He said Voters Day was started in 2011 especially for the youth who attained the age of 18. He said it was specially meant for the people to determine their right to exercise their franchise which was constituted in Article 325 of the Indian constitution, “Promoting the right to vote in a free democratic country”.
Special appearance, Imkongnungchet, a physically disabled person highlighted his experiences in the past election, said that the polling stations should be in a proper place where even the disabilities person can go for exercising his franchise. He urged the Election Commission to look into the circumstances faced by people like him.
Dean of Post Graduate Studies CTC Aolijen, Dr. Mar Pongener as a special guest exhorted the voters to exercise their franchise freely without any doubt. 
WOKHA: Joining the rest of the nation, Wokha district election department also observed the day at DC conference hall. Speaking on the occasion, DC and District Election Officer (DEO) Wokha A. Robin Lotha urged all concerned to work towards realization of inclusive and qualitative participation in the electoral process.
On the occasion, DC and DEO Wokha presented best BLO awards consisting of certificates and cash to N. Mhathung Kikon under 37 Tyui A/C, Zubemo Y. Ezung under 38 Wokha A/C, C. Libenthung Tsopoe under 39 Sanis A/C, and Augustine Patton under 40 Bhandari A/C.
DC and DEO Wokha also distributed newly processed EPICs to the first time enrolled voters after which he administered the voters’ pledge to the gathering. EAC Wokha Asalie Lese, who chaired the short programme, also delivered welcome address while Assistant Election Officer Wokha, Toshimongba Longchar proposed the vote of thanks.
ZUNHEBOTO:  Observing the day, Assistant Election Officer, Chisho K. Swu highlighted various programs with special attention to disabled persons and minorities being initiated by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for inclusive participation and asked every eligible individual to develop sense of responsibility to vote without being influenced by any unfair inducement.
ADC, Zunheboto, Nungsangmenla Imchen  administered the voters pledge.
TUENSANG:  National Voters’ Day was also observed at CKS hall Tuensang attended by DC, Tuensang, Alem Jongshi, officials of different departments, BLOs and many newly enrolled voters.
USLP president and secretary RCS, Tuensang, T.Y. Sangtam graced the event as chief guest. He congratulated the newly enrolled voters and encouraged the gathering to initiate free and inclusive power of the people in electing qualified and eligible candidate for the welfare of the people.
Audio message from the Office of Chief Election Commissioner was relayed to the gathering. 
Pughoboto: BLOs, NGOs, Church leaders and students under Pughoboto Sub-Division observed the  day at the ADC’s office compound. ADC & District Election Officer, Pughoboto, Avelu Ruho while emphasizing on the theme said Government officials were bounded by the constitution to make clean e-roll and delete those names whole passed away and multiple enrolments.
She challenged the public to take responsibilities, and urged those who have reached 18 years to enrol in the electorate roll and exercise their valuable votes. ADC also challenged the NGOs and Church leaders to continue their co-operation by creating awareness on clean election and thanked NBCC for the support extended during the campaign.
Meanwhile, T.Axhi Lohe P/S No 30 Laza Izoqawas was awarded the best BLO of the year 2016 under Pughoboto Sub Division and identity card were handed to the newly enrolled. SDO (C) & ERO, Pughoboto, Er. Namang Sepong Chang said Pughoboto sub-division has achieved 100% photo electorate coverage. The programme was also attended by the SDPO, Pughoboto Akihito, 8th NAP, Naltoqa A Coy commander Pholosing Sangtam, DBs and others.
DHANSIRIPAR:  The day was also observed at Dhansiripar sub division attended by students’ leaders, women representatives and leaders from different organizations.
SDO (C) Dhansiripar, Mhalo Humtsoe said that National Voters Day was celebrated to create awareness about the election process and to encourage every illegible voters to participate in the election process. She said that election was not just about the voting day but a long process including summary revision, special summary revision etc. SDO (C) also spoke on the objective of Election Commission for celebrating National Voters Day. Supervisor, CDPO Office Dhansiripar, Benjamin chaired the programme.
IPR DEPARTMENT: Officers and staffs of the Directorate of Information & Public Relations took pledge for promotion of the democratic electoral participation on the occasion of the National Voters Day celebration at IPR citadel conference hall, Kohima. The pledge was administered by Director IPR, Pausui Zeliang while additional director IPR chaired the programme.
SOCIAL WELFARE DEPTT: Department of social welfare, Dimapur also observed the National Voters’ Day.
DWO Dimapur, Tosheli Zhimomi read out the pledge. The programme chaired by DPO Dimapur, S. Nezolu Rhakho began with an invocation by SDPO Niuland, Dzuziengulie.
MON: Mon district also observed the 6th national voters’ day at DC office, with deputy commissioner and district election officer, Mon, W. Honje Konyak as main speaker.  Honje in his speech appealed to the newly enrolled young voters to take the lead and act as agents of change, towards transforming the system and to strengthen the Indian democracy. During short speeches the executive secretary KBBB, Chemyuh and vice president KNSK, Mongyo assured of extending full cooperation and support in ensuring clean and peaceful elections. Campus ambassador, Wangkhao College, Mon, Nokthak shared “why must I register”.
