Members of ‘Shri Ramakrishna Society, Duncan, Dimapur’ celebrated the 154th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Sunday with a procession starting from Ramakrishna Sevashram, near Railway high school viz G.S. road- midland- Ramakrishna Society, Duncan, Dimapur office holding placards inscribed with Vivekananda quotes.
The procession was followed by a programme at Ramakrishna Society, Duncan with Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) administrator H. Atokhe Aye as chief guest and higher education, department of English (retd) associate professor Keshaw Avikasit as guest of honour.
Speaking at the programme, Atokhe mentioned that the government had felt that the philosophy of Vivekananda and his ideals as a great source of inspiration for the youth thereby his birthday has been declared to be observed as the National Youth Day annually.
He was of the view that when such day was observed to remember a “social reformer”, “philosopher” and “great thinker” it would be meaningless if one just observe the day and let it go without getting motivated by following his ideals.
Atokhe said that Vivekananda ideals have motivated numerous youth organizations in the field of art, culture, education and in generating moral values. He was also optimistic that the youth of the country would be inspired and motivated towards the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda by getting themselves up to his ideas and ideologies.
He also encouraged the students studying in such institutions run by organizations rooted in the teachings of Swami Vivekananda to have the opportunity of knowing, learning and practices the ideals of Swami’s lessons better so that they could take the lead as a messenger and inspiration to others.
He further called upon various Ramakrishna Centres which were birthed out of the teachings and philosophies of Swami Vivekananda to continue emphasizing on educating the youth who have the ability of transforming the country.
Further, Atokhe also acknowledged the presence of various organizations associated with the movement of Ramakrishna mission running several educational institutions in Dimapur.
Guest of honour, Keshaw Avikasit also spoke on the moral values of Swami Vivekananda. Other highlights of the programme include various songs, tribute to Swamiji, speeches by students from various schools. Earlier the programme was chaired by Lipika Sharma.
