Norther Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO) has reiterated its earlier appeal on law enforcement agencies in Kohima, to be restrained in public places during counter-insurgency operations in the aftermath of various shooting incidents and spate of bombings in the state capital as well as across the state.
In a statement NAYO president Peter Rutsa said the “breakdown of cease fire” between NSCN(K) and government of India, has gripped the citizens of Kohima’s urban and rural areas with gloom and apprehension.
NAYO said the situation was further aggravated by the shooting on unarmed Assam Rifles personnel at IG stadium and killing of another AR personnel near Classic Island in total disregard to public safety.
Stating it was not competent to comment on factors for abrogation of ceasefire and the subsequent resurgence of armed conflict, NAYO said its fervent prayer and that of the community it represented, was for permanent peace and restoration of normalcy at the earliest.
NAYO asserted that all armed personnel immediately cease confrontation with each other “under the shield of civilians, by all means without excuses”. It also acknowledged the “control displayed” by the Assam Rifles on May 8 when two Nagas reportedly from the NSCN(K) were apprehended with firearms and explosive device at the PHQ junctioin during rush hour without use of “lethal force”.
It urged central paramilitary and state police forces to continue exhibiting “such pro-civilian operational ethics in the days to come”.
Further, NAYO and its constituent villages reaffirmed support to “every decision” taken by Angami Youth Organisation(AYO) to uphold peace and tranquillity under its jurisdiction. It also endorsed any course of action that AYO might take upon any individual or organisations both civilian or armed personnel, government or otherwise, whose action and functioning was detrimental and confronted any previous appeal(s) made by the organisation.
