NBA urges state govt to keep Amendment Rules in abeyance

DIMAPUR, JUN 9 (NPN)

Pointing out flaws in the Administration of Justice and Police in Nagaland (Fifth Amendment) Rules 2025, the Nagaland Bar Association (NBA) has urged the state government to keep the Amendment Rules in abeyance.
In a representation to the state chief minister, NBA president A. Zhimomi and secretary S. Keyho stated that the executive committee of NBA at a meeting held on May 16, 2025 discussed the Amendment of 2025.
The Bar said it took note of the fact that the said Amendment was yet to be brought into force. Accordingly, the Bar requested the government to keep in abeyance the Amendment of 2025 and to revisit its provisions so that the objective of protecting Naga customs and usages, was actually achieved.
NBA said that contradiction in the objective of protecting Naga customary laws and usages and the creation of a new class of statutory courts, with the nomenclature of “Customary Courts- was apparent.
It stated that Naga customary laws and usages should not be whittled down and/or lost by creating statutory courts with the nomenclature -Customary Courts-. NBA expressed hope that the government would appreciate the concern of the Bar in its proper prospective and act in the interest of the people.
