NBCC, ABCC reaffirm commitment to NLTP Act

DIMAPUR, FEB 28 (NPN):

Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, and urged the State government to ensure its sincere, consistent and effective implementation.
According to NBCC president Rev. Achu Chang and general secretary Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, this resolution was adopted during the 89th annual council held from February 5-8, at CBLT Mission Centre Tuensang.
The council resolved that its churches would further strengthen substance abuse prevention initiatives. It stated that efforts would focus on primary prevention by creating awareness and sensitising the younger generation on the harmful effects of substance abuse, and on secondary prevention through care, support, counselling and rehabilitation for affected individuals and families.
ABCC: Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC), during its first council meeting of 2026 held at the Mission Centre, Kohima on February 27, reiterated its unwavering commitment to uphold the NLTP Act, 1989, and to stand firmly with the NBCC in combating the ills of liquor. In a press note, ABCC executive director Rev. Rachülie Vihienuo and president Rev. Zhabu Terhüjah, said the council resolved to fully support NBCC’s resolution adopted during its 89th annual council, particularly on “Commitment to the NLTP Act and Substance Abuse Prevention.”
ABCC announced that it would intensify its prevention work through local churches and the Arukah Ministry—a ministry under the men’s department that has been providing care, support, and counseling primarily to alcoholics for over 15 years.
Recognising the church’s broader role in society, ABCC further assured its readiness to extend any supportive role to the state government, if required, toward the effective implementation of the NLTP Act.
