NBCC lauds NLTP enforcement, calls for sustained implementation

DIMAPUR, JUL 14 (NPN): Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has welcomed the Nagaland government’s recent enforcement of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act through the sealing of establishments allegedly involved in illegal liquor sales.
In a joint statement, NBCC general secretary Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener and social concern department secretary Dr. Villo Naleo said the Act, enacted in 1989, reflected the people’s commitment to protecting society from alcohol-related harm. While acknowledging past implementation challenges, the council said the law remained relevant in safeguarding lives, families, public health and social order.
NBCC commended the government for its resolve and urged consistent, fair and transparent enforcement to strengthen public confidence.
It said alcohol abuse continued to cause family breakdown, health problems, violence and economic hardship, stressing that lasting change required personal responsibility alongside legislation.
