DIMAPUR: The Nagaland Baptist Church Council in collaboration with the district administration Mokokchung on Thursday convened an interaction and fellowship programme on Clean Election Movement at the DC Conference Hall, a DIPR report stated.
In his introductory address, NBCC, general secretary Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, said the gathering was not merely a formal programme but a platform for dialogue, partnership and shared responsibility towards the Clean Election Movement—an initiative of NBCC aimed at bringing about social transformation.
He stated that the movement was launched in response to challenges associated with elections in Nagaland, with the objective of awakening the conscience of all stakeholders, including voters, leaders, civil society and institutions. He emphasised that the vision of the movement was not only systemic change but also transformation in attitudes and values, which required collective effort and cooperation.
NBCC, secretary, Social Concern Department Dr. Villo Naleo, presented on the theme “NBCC initiative for clean election: vision, commitment and way forward,” highlighting the history, objectives and strategies of the movement.
Deputy commissioner & district election officer Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, appreciated NBCC for the initiative and said it would contribute towards ensuring clean, fair and peaceful elections. He remarked that while rules and laws serve as preventive measures, meaningful change would only come through collective participation of all stakeholders.
ABAM, executive secretary Rev. Temsu Jamir, also shared that the message of the Clean Election Movement would have a positive impact on society.
The programme was chaired by Christian Education Department, NBCC, secretary Bideno Kikon, while benediction was pronounced by secretary, women department, NBCC Katoli V. Sumi.
