NBCC observes Environment Sunday; calls for creation care

DIMAPUR: Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) observed Environment Sunday with programmes highlighting the biblical mandate of creation care amid growing environmental crises.
In a press statement, Dr. Villo Naleo secretary, Social Concerns, NBCC stated that environmental degradation has become one of the greatest global threats, with sudden climate changes impacting daily life. It reminded Christians of their responsibility as stewards of God’s creation, citing Genesis 2:15 and Psalm 24:1 as directives to “work and keep” the earth entrusted to them.
The observance provided churches an opportunity to worship, teach, act and witness through sermons, prayers, awareness drives and community service. NBCC proposed a unified framework for June 2026, including community clean ups, tree plantation, waste management awareness, prayer services, and sermons on “Creation Care and Christian Responsibility.” Churches were also encouraged to commit to ongoing projects such as waste reduction, community gardens and youth education programmes.
At the NBCC office, Bayavü, a programme was jointly organised with the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) and Students Christian Fellowship, attended by several church leaders and pastors from Kohima. NBCC expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response from churches, schools, villages and civil societies across the state, and looked forward to wider engagement in future observances.
