A four-member team from Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) was part of the Indian delegation at the Global Bamboo and Rattan Congress held in Beijing, China from June 25 to 27.
According to a press release from team member M. Kichung Phom, the event, organised by International Network for Bamboo and Rattan Organisation (INBAR) and hosted by National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China, was attended by bamboo experts, organisations and scientists from around the world.
The team was headed by its chairman, Visasolie Lhounghu and principal secretary, APC and mission director, T. Imkonglemba Ao.
The three-day event included a plenary session on high level dialogue and parallel sessions for each country and regions focusing on use of bamboo and rattan as strategic resources to support sustainable development and green economy.
T. Imkonglemba Ao, also chaired one of the sessions where the role of bamboo in economic development in India was discussed.
The team from Nagaland visited the largest bamboo nursery and tissue culture lab in China.
The team also interacted with Prof. Tan Hongchao from Yunnan Normal University and Kamesh Salam, president of South Asian Bamboo Foundation, and they also discussed possible future collaborations.
