Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), with the assistance of the Assam Rifles, arrested two alleged smugglers in Manipur on Wednesday.
Officials said the team seized over 7.3 kg of heroin worth around Rs 15 crore in the international market, busting a Myanmar-sourced drug trafficking module.
The joint team, acting on specific intelligence inputs, intercepted a four-wheeler near the Manipur-Myanmar border and recovered 7.31 kg of heroin concealed inside 638 plastic soap cases.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment originated from the Haichin region of Myanmar, officials reported, adding that the smugglers transported the drugs through dense forest corridors in Manipur, bypassing regular police surveillance and established checkpoints.
The arrestees were later identified as Ginkhawmlian and Mangboi Simte, both residents of Mata village in the Multam area of Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
Officials added that both accused were produced before a court along with the seized narcotics for further legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
