A ten-day mega Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) for National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from schools and colleges under the aegis of 25 Naga Battalion NCC, Mokokchung commenced on January 4 at St Joseph University, Chümoukedima.
A press release by commanding officer, Col CST Swamy informed that the more than 670 personnel including 621 cadets from the districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Shamator, Noklak, Wokha, Phek, Peren, Chümoukedima, Tseminyu and Kiphire are participating in the ten-day long mega camp. During the camp, group commander, NCC Group Kohima, Brigadier Dipankar Saha visited the camp and inspected the arrangements made for the camp.
The group commander reviewed a guard of honour by the NCC cadets in the quarter guard specially prepared by the cadets for the camp and inspected the “Know Your NCC” information kiosk. In an address to the cadets, brigadier Saha highlighted the aim of the camp i.e., to inculcate camaraderie, sense of discipline and cohesiveness amongst cadets apart from giving an experience in camp life and training them in basic military skills. He exhorted the cadets to make use of the varied training activities being organized in the camp. Brigadier Saha also informed the cadets, especially girl cadets regarding the huge opportunities available to them in becoming commissioned officers in Indian armed forces, police forces and various state government jobs.
The group commander requested the cadets to appear for the NCC certificate exams in order to benefit from the immense weightage that was being given to the certificate holders in central and state government career opportunities. He motivated the cadets to aspire to take part in prestigious NCC events like Republic Day camp, Thal sainik Camp, adventure camps like mountaineering, skiing, trekking and youth exchange programme to foreign countries.
The visit was followed by a health awareness capsule, wherein director Blood Bank from District Hospital, Dimapur, Dr. T Temsu along with a team of paramedics delivered an audio-visual presentation on benefits of voluntary blood donation. He urged the young cadets to come forward and save at lives by donating blood. A total of 82 cadets voluntarily donated blood in the blood donation camp organized at the camp venue by the team.
