Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) and Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) expressed its gratitude to DC Dimapur and the district administration for the “great favour to the common man by reducing autorickshaw fares.”
In a joint statement, NCD president T. Bangerloba Ao, general secretary Ntsemo Ngullie and NWHD president Hukheli Wotsao however said that though the whip has been cracked in the light of reduced fuel prices, they expressed apprehension that the pro citizens measure “may not go down well with the auto-rickshaw owners and union”.
As experienced in past, directives by the administration were “mostly never complied with”, they said citing the compulsory uniform for auto-drivers, as a non-starter.
NCD and NWHD have fervently appealed autorickshaw union to comply with the DC’s directive, stating that it was done in interest of the public.
Further, they also urged the district administration “not to succumb to anti-poor pressure tactics which may be resorted to by the union”.
Meanwhile, Naga Council Dimapur and Naga Women Hoho Dimapur said also drew the attention of the DC, pointing out that with transportation costs reduced, prices of essential commodities also needed to be reviewed.
They said that the district administration could investigate the reasons for such, pointing out that “cartels and syndicates operating solely for monopoly may be opposed to reduction in prices”.
