NCM to present ‘Les Misérables’ production

Nagaland Conservatory of Music (NCM), is set to present its musical production “Les Misérables” (Another day, Another destiny) from November 23 to 25, at Lorin Hall, Tetso College. This was informed by chairman NCM Lipokmar Tzudir during a press conference held at NCM, full Nagarjan, Dimapur on Tuesday.


Tzudir, informed that the production “Les Misérables” based on a French historical novel written by Victor Hugo and published in 1862, which was considered one of the greatest novels of 19th century and also been popularized through numerous adaptions for films, television and the stage including musical. He informed that this was the outcome of a case study for various genres of music done by the voice department NCM and part of their particular semester to inspire not only within their community but for the state and its region and perform it primarily for educational purpose.


He said that after several months of studying its philosophy and its artistry, they felt that it would be worthwhile to attempt a production and give access to the communities to have a firsthand experience of such production live.


Expressing confidence about their institutions, he mentioned that NCM have storehouse of talents who were capable of singing and acting to deliver the best live performance. However, he lamented that financial support were one of their major challenges, which they approached several institutions who were positively involved in such activities and acknowledged North East Zonal Cultural Centre (NEZCC) from the ministry of culture, government of India and TAFMA under the state government for their support, while mentioning that NCM have to raise their own funds for the tickets.


Their other supporting partners includes DMC for logistics, Annalia beauty as make-up partner, Eastern Publication House for prints, creatives and design and Tetso College for allotting their auditorium to set up such productions, while adding that sounds and lights would be manage by Audio Garage Dimapur and MP Lights Guwahati.


The chairman also highlighted about their preparation journey seeking the minimal expenses to bring out the best costumes and different sets of stage props. The three-day orchestra event which could accommodate only 400 person at one time would witnessed one hour and thirty minutes non-stop performance of music, dance, drama from around 50 former and current students of NCM, which also involves comedy, tragedies and action revolved from 19th century scenario when some peasants prisoners who were later released and trying to transform the society through several confrontations, fighting against corruption, discrimination and system which could be viewed by general audience.


The tickets are priced at Rs. 5000 for first patron night admit for four people, the second and third night for Rs. 2000 access for two person including snacks, post-performance and interaction session with the youngsters to make it educational and would be available conventionally both offline and online. The extravagant event is being led by chairman NCM Lipokmar Tzudir, Tiakumzuk Imchen and Vini Assumi as director, Zhoto Vero from core production team and Moanungsang Longkumer who recently joined NCM as production coordinator, consultant.


The institutions were embarking on an initiative to develop music education not only in Nagaland and region but also in effort to develop infrastructure to attract students from South East Asia and to mould up leadership qualities.
