NCSU, NVYO condemn ‘capital punishment’ issued to member

Nagaland Contractor’s & Supplier’s Union (NCSU) has expressed shock and strongly condemned the issuance of ‘capital punishment’ to one of its bonafide members, M/s K. Rulhou, by a Naga national group due to “non-payment of taxation.”

In a press note, NCSU president Pele Khezhie and general secretary John Kath described the decision as “inhuman,” emphasizing that it was particularly disturbing coming from an organization that claims to fight for the general Naga public.

The union highlighted that contractors and suppliers in Nagaland have faced multiple taxations by Naga groups for many decades, and have been cooperating. However, the unresolved Naga political issue and internal conflicts within Naga groups have only increased the taxation burden on both NCSU members and the general public. NCSU stated that such a dangerous decision of death penalty within Naga family was uncalled for and unacceptable in a civilized society.

Reaffirming its May 7, 2024 general meeting resolution, NCSU demanded that its bonafide members be exempted from all forms of unabated taxation by any Naga national groups, as well as from demands by ministers/advisors in the state and the collection of political party funds, which compromise the quality of work.

NCSU headquarters, Kohima demanded that the concerned group immediately withdraw its decision.
The union also urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action against the groups involved to ensure peace of mind and safety for the member and his family.

NVYO condemns: Nerhema Village Youth Organisation (NYO) has strongly condemned the death penalty/capital punishment threat served on contractor Kezhale-o Rülho, proprietor of KKB Rülho and a bona fide and prominent member of Nerhema village, by NSCN (K) Khango group.

In a condemnation note, NVYO president Visedelie Chatsu and general secretary Ruopfünuo Kiewhuo have urged the law enforcing agencies to nab the culprits and give stringent punishment.
The youth body also appealed to all sensible citizens to raise up and thwart illegal taxation, which has crippled the economy and society for too long.

Meanwhile, the NVYO has warned that if anything befalls Kezhale-o Rülho, the NSCN (K) Khango group would be held responsible, adding that the organisation would deal with the matter according to customary law.
