The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, during its 6th General Convention held on October 18, at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima, unanimously adopted a resolution to merge with the Naga People’s Front (NPF) to form a single unified regional political party in Nagaland.
The convention, attended by delegates and representatives from all levels of the party, thoroughly deliberated on the NPF’s proposal to amalgamate the two regional parties under the banner of the NPF. After detailed discussions, the house resolved to accept the NPF’s unconditional offer of merger and in accordance with Article X of the NDPP constitution, adopted the following resolutions
- That the NDPP welcomes and accepts the offer of the NPF to amalgamate and merge as one Regional political party in the greater interest of the Naga cause and the Naga people.
The unconditional offer of the NPF is a mature and well calibrated move in working towards having a strong and unified Regional political party in the State under the banner of the NPF, one of the oldest regional political party in the country and the members of the NDPP look forward to working together. - That the NDPP being made up of regional minded people is confident that the merger with the NPF will further strengthen and carry forward the ideals of a regional political party in working towards resolving the age-old Indo-Naga political issue and at the same time continue to be the voice of the Naga people.
The merging of the two regional political parties in the State will only help in further cementing our dreams and aspirations of a vibrant and developed people. - The NDPP continues to stand firm in our commitment to the Naga people to work tirelessly in achieving our aspirations of moving “Towards a State of Excellence” and those commitments will only be further strengthened under a unified banner of a singular Regional political party in the State. It is only through a unified power that can bring about the much needed intensive attention in taking the Naga people forward.
- The sheer dynamisms of the President, Chingwang Konyak and the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio and their political presence has brought the Party thus far and the NDPP extends its unwavering support to the leadership and repose our endorsement to them in ensuring a smooth transition of the merger with the NPF.
The resolution committee members included K.G. Kenye, minister (convener); H. Chuba Chang, working president (member); Ahovi Zhimomi, working president (member); Benjamin Lorin, vice president (member); and Merentoshi R. Jamir, vice president (member secretary).
