NDPP adopts resolutions on Indo-Naga issue, economy and governance

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the Indo-Naga political issue, strengthening the economy, and promoting good governance at its 5th General Convention held in Kohima on February 27. The resolution was read out by convenor resolution committee and minister of Women Resource Development Salhoutuonuo Kruse read the resolution.

The NDPP emphasized that the Indo-Naga political issue remains its top priority. It acknowledged the contributions of past and present Naga leaders and reaffirmed its commitment to defending the history and rights of the Naga people.

The party urged all Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) to unite and work towards a final political settlement that is “honorable, acceptable, and inclusive of all stakeholders.” It also called on the Government of India to expedite the peace process.

The party strongly opposed the abolition of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and the construction of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border, stating that such actions could lead to civil unrest and disrupt ongoing political negotiations.

NDPP outlined its vision to position Nagaland as an economic hub under India’s Act East Policy and expand trade with ASEAN nations. The party lauded government initiatives such as the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative, Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme, and various tourism and entrepreneurship programs that have contributed to economic growth.

The party also urged the Centre to revoke the Protected/Restricted Area Permit (PAP/RAP), stating that it hampers tourism and industrial growth.

Agriculture and Youth: Recognizing agriculture as a primary sector in Nagaland, the NDPP called for a shift from subsistence farming to large-scale, technology-driven agriculture. It advocated for modern farming techniques, including blockchain integration, organic farming, and value addition.

On youth empowerment, the party praised the government for policies supporting sports, entrepreneurship, and skill development. It highlighted the success of events such as the Asia Music Summit, South Asian Cross Country Championships, and North-East Olympics, which have provided platforms for Naga youth.
