The 3rd North East Games 2024 witnessed an electrifying turn of events on Day 4 (Friday) as Manipur surged ahead, seizing the lead in the medal tally. With an impressive haul of 32 gold, 22 silver, and 24 bronze medals, totalling an outstanding 78 medals, Manipur’s athletes showcased their exceptional prowess, setting the stage for a nail-biting finale.
As Manipur takes the lead, all eyes are now on the final day tally to see if Nagaland can reclaim its position at the top. With 31 gold, 22 silver, and 28 bronze medals, totalling 81, Nagaland remains a formidable contender, determined to leave no stone unturned in the quest for victory.
Meanwhile, Assam continues to assert its presence with 29 gold, 33 silver, and 32 bronze medals, boasting an impressive total of 94 medals. As the competition reaches its climax, the race for supremacy intensifies, with each state vying for glory till the very end.
As the 3rd North East Games 2024 hurtles towards its conclusion, anticipation mounts, and excitement fills the air.
Mizoram to take on Manipur in football final
Mizoram will lock horn with Manipur in the football final match of the ongoing 3rd Northeast Games 2024 on Saturday at the NAPTC ground Chumoukedima. Playing the first semi-final match against Manipur on Friday, Nagaland went down 1-2 against Manipur. Nagaland started well and found the back of the net in the 21st minutes through the boots of Neisede. The first half ended in 1-0 in favour of Nagaland.
After the break, spirited Manipur came from behind and equalised the goal when Sanathoi Meeitei scored in the 52nd minute. Three minutes after the equaliser, Manipur sealed the victory as Sanathoi converted the goal in the 55th minute. With renewed efforts, the host Nagaland tried to find the equaliser but had to concede a defeat against the mighty Manipur.
In the second semi-final, Mizoram defeated Arunachal Pradesh 2-0 to secure their spot in the final. Mizoram drew the first blood in the 34th minute of the game through Ramngaihsanga. The first half ended in 1-0 in favour of Mizoram. After the lemon break, Mizoram sealed their spot in the final as R. Malsawntluanga scored in the dying minute.
On Saturday, Nagaland will play against Arunachal Pradesh to vie for the bronze medal at 10 am at the NAPTC ground Chumoukedima. While in the gold medal game, Manipur will play against Mizoram at 2 pm.
Nagaland wins overall group champions in Taekwondo event
The Nagaland Taekwondo team has emerged as the champions with 12 medals (4 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze) in the Taekwondo event held as part of the Northeast Games 2024 here at Sovima Futsal ground.
Nagaland was followed by Manipur in second with four gold, one silver, and 3 bronze of the overall medal tally. Mizoram state is in 3rd position with 3 gold, 4 silver, and two bronze of the table tally. This is the first time Nagaland has dominated the taekwondo event over the past three editions.
The Nagaland team performed well on the first day of the event, winning four gold medals but had to settle with 5 silver on the second day of the championship. But the silver medals made the difference to win the overall group championship of the Taekwondo event.
