NE migrant workers urged to register in Tamil Nadu

DIMAPUR

Wapangtoshi, pastor of the Naga Christian Fellowship Chennai and member of the State-Level Inter-State Migrant (ISM) Workers Advisory Committee, Government of Tamil Nadu, attended the committee’s first meeting of 2025 held at the DMS Campus, Teynampet, Chennai on July 23.
According to Wapangtoshi, the meeting, chaired by S.A. Raman, Commissioner of Labour, resolved to promote registration of migrant workers in Tamil Nadu to ensure access to government welfare schemes including free medical care, education, rations, housing assistance, and compensation for workplace accidents or deaths.
Wapangtoshi urged all workers from the Northeast employed in Tamil Nadu’s unorganized sector—such as construction, catering, hospitality, and retail—to register via https://labour.tn.gov.in/ism. He emphasized that many workers from states like Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Tripura remain unregistered, making emergency assistance difficult. He appealed to state governments, civil societies, and individuals in the Northeast to collaborate in supporting and safeguarding migrant workers in Tamil Nadu.
