DIMAPUR, JUL 15 (NPN): North Eastern Council (NEC) released Rs. 58.96 crore to Nagaland during May-June 2026 to support road infrastructure, tourism, skill development, rural connectivity and community projects across the state.
Of the total allocation, Rs. 48.02 crore was sanctioned under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS-Roads), while the remaining amount was released under the Scheme of NEC (SoNEC).
The NESIDS allocation covered seven road projects: upgradation of the Thizama via Kohima by-pass road to the proposed Chiethu airport via Nehre model village; improvement of the road from Phomching Hq. (Nagaland) to Longding Hq. (Arunachal Pradesh) via Wetting Longjang and Phuka village; improvement of the road from Coco road Anglomi Old British Bungalow to Ghukiye Junction via Kilki road; construction of the road from Old Peren to New Peren (DC office) via Chalkot Junction; construction of the road from Jalukie to the New DO Complex model township at Peren; upgradation of the Tuensang-Longleng road; and upgradation of the road from Khonoma village to NH-29 via Tzudza River.
According to NEC, the projects aim to improve inter-state and intra-state connectivity, link remote villages, facilitate access to airports and essential services, and promote economic growth.
Under SoNEC, the council funded a Skill Development-cum-Garo Community Centre in Dimapur, a Rongmei Multi-Purpose Complex at Jalukie, and a Tribal Artisans Resource Centre in Chümoukedima. It also released the first instalment for an Integrated Development Project in the backward areas of the Phomching Assembly constituency in Mon district, with a total project cost of Rs. 6.26 crore.
Other funds supported tourism, coffee processing, trade infrastructure, technical education and public amenities.
NEC also reported completion of the 9.60-km Glory Peak Tourist Road in Phek district during May-June. Built at a cost of Rs. 32.50 crore, the road improves access to Glory Peak, Kapamodzu Forest and Japan Cave, and is expected to benefit about 28,387 residents of 11 nearby villages.
Apart from state projects, NEC released Rs. 18.93 crore to regional institutions, including universities, technical institutes, NGOs and societies, for development programmes in the Northeast.
Nagaland received support for a two-day state-level eco-tourism workshop organised by the North East Programme for Economic Development (NEPED), a physics academy study by Nagaland University, and a PM Gati Shakti geospatial capacity-building programme conducted by the Nagaland GIS and Remote Sensing Centre in Kohima.
