NECU Dimapur, NUKC, NPCB organise awareness programmes for students

As part of their academic and extracurricular activities, North East Christian University (NECU) Dimapur and Nagaland University, Kohima Campus (NUKC), in collaboration with Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) organised awareness programmes for the students.
NECU: One day national seminar on “Exploring languages and literatures for evolving pedagogical practices” was organised by the North East Christian University (NECU) Dimapur, English Programme with English Language Teachers Association of India (ELTAI) on May 1 at the university campus.
During the programme, the keynote speaker, Dr. Theyiesinuo Keditsu highlighted the intricacies of language in the context of culture, social, individual and education.


Dr. Keditsu spoke on how native English intonation and pronunciation was regarded as the “standard” and how unforgiving the “standard English” can be to the Naga tongue.
Instead of “idealizing” the standard English, Dr. Keditsu said the celebration of the rich diversity of Naga English with all its tribal inflections would only enrich or add to the evolution of English.
The resource persons, Dr. Temsurenla Ozukum, Dr. Xavier Pradheep Singh and Dr. Nizara Hazarika, took up sessions on the “North East Indian Literature: the way forward”, “Teaching English in the Age of AI” and “India Reads Movement”. The seminar ended with a panel discussion. The seminar saw participation of students and faculty from schools, higher secondaries, colleges, and universities.
NUKC, NPCB: In a bid to address pressing environmental concerns, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus (NUKC), in collaboration with Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), organized an awareness program under the National Clean Air Programme, themed “Awareness Generation on Mission LiFE Activities” on May 3.


According to PRO in-Charge & Hindi Officer Nagaland University, Ashish Kumar, keynote speaker, K Hukato Chishi, member secretary NPCB in his speech emphasized the fundamental rights of every individual to clean air and water, and said that collective action was needed to preserve these necessities.
He underscored the role of public participation in driving meaningful change and urged attendees to become proactive stewards of the environment.
Resource persons from the NPCB Senior Scientific Assistant Olivi Chophy, Yanathung Kithan, Scientist ‘B’ and Rongsenben Longkumer, Junior Scientific Assistant delved into the topics of Ambient Air Pollution in the state, Solid Waste Management, and the introduction of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) respectively.


Chophy highlighted the current air quality status in Nagaland and the harmful effects of air pollution, mentioning that exposure to polluted air causes respiratory problems even in young children.
Scientist B Yanathung emphasized the importance of waste segregation at source as waste was a responsibility of every citizen and said that collective effort by the citizens and the government was imperative to ensuring effective solid waste management.
Earlier, Prof.G.T.Thong, Pro-Vice Chancellor,NUKC, delivered the opening remarks and welcomed all the participants. The program was chaired by Dr. Aokumla Walling, Warden of Lakhai Hostel, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Suneplong, MSc 2nd semester, Department of Geology.
