DIMAPUR: North East Christian University (NECU) and Cooperl Trading India Private Limited, part of France-based Cooperl Group, signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to explore potential collaboration in training, skill development and capacity building for Nagaland’s piggery sector.
A press release by assistant professor NECU, Dr. Chibenthung Yanthan informed that the LoI was signed in New Delhi by NECU Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Darlando T. Khathing and General Manager, Cooperl India, Julien Proux.
The initiative comes at an important stage in development of Nagaland’s piggery sector. The Government of Nagaland and Cooperl Trading India recently signed a separate Memorandum of Understanding to explore cooperation in development and modernisation of the sector, including scientific breeding methods, improved farming practices and technical capacity building.
Against this background, NECU and Cooperl Trading India intend to assess opportunities for cooperation in education and professional training.
The areas being considered may include short-term courses, certificate programmes, practical training, Training of Trainers and field-based learning. Potential subjects may include pig breeding and genetics, animal nutrition, animal health, biosecurity, farm management and other aspects of modern pig production.
Through this initiative, NECU aims to combine its academic and training capabilities with Cooperl’s technical and industry experience, with the proposed collaboration aimed to create practical learning opportunities for farmers, students, young professionals, trainers and other stakeholders involved in the piggery sector.
The discussions leading to the signing of the LoI also benefited from the support of Capt. G. S. Rathee, whose engagement with Cooperl, NECU and relevant stakeholders in Nagaland helped facilitate the dialogue around this potential initiative.
