Need for staying positive stressed on ‘National Cancer Survivor Day’

Correspondent

The need to stress on the importance of staying positive, supporting one another, and trusting in God’s plan to ward off despair by people surviving with cancer was highlighted during the observance of “National Cancer Survivor Day”.

This message was shared by Khrienuo Rio Moa, the founder of RML Cancer Foundation, while observing “National Cancer Survivor Day” at Putuonuo Hospital in Kohima, Saturday.
Moa shared her poignant journey of caregiving for her husband, a cancer patient, while delivering a heartfelt address titled, “Reflections from a Caregiver.”

In her emotional narrative, she highlighted the initial devastation upon learning of the diagnosis, the ensuing nine months of struggle, and the profound lessons learned amidst adversity.
Moa’s unwavering faith in God and the strength derived from scriptures sustained her through the darkest times. She said she was reminded of the words from Jeremiah 21:9.

Survivors speak about sickness, healing, and faith
Cancer Survivors Kekhrieletso Kelio and Samuel Venuh echoed Moa’s sentiments, sharing their personal battles with cancer. Kelio, a colon cancer survivor, reflected on the vexing nature of sickness and the transformative power of faith. He expressed gratitude to the medical team and attributed his recovery to divine intervention.

Venuh, amidst his own journey, pondered the existential question, “Why me, Lord?”. Finding solace in prayer and faith, he emphasised the significance of trust in God’s will and the unwavering support provided by Putuonuo Hospital. The event was attended by cancer survivors, caregivers, and medical professionals with a collective attitude to life, resilience, and hope.

Launch of Free Cancer Clinic
A pivotal moment in the event was the launch of the Free Cancer Clinic, a collaborative effort between RML Cancer Foundation and Putuonuo Hospital.
