Taking cue of the rapid pace of urbanization in the state, Nagaland chief minister, T.R. Zeliang has stressed on the need for Nagaland to have smart plans for the townships.
Addressing the inaugural of Shamator Town Council Tuesday morning, Zeliang said when people have been thronging to the towns from villages, there was a need to have smart plans for basic civic amenities. A statement issued by CMO media cell said, Zeliang cited the example of Centre’s initiative to build smart towns and cities under the “Smart City” projects. He felt that even those towns and cities, which were not eligible for the ‘Smart City project’, equally need smart plans and development.
“That is why my government had decided to create a new department called department of Municipal Affairs, with Tohanba as the first parliamentary secretary to take charge”, he added.
With Shamator, being the constituency of Tohanba, Zeliang was confident that the elected member would not only over see the functioning of the town council but usher in smart plans and address issues faced by the people of the state. He also urged the people to imbibe civic sense and cooperate with the authorities concerned at all time.
Reminding the gathering that Tuensang district was the pioneer district which existed even before statehood, Zeliang appealed to the people to show the way forward as the pioneer in uniting Nagas for a common cause. He said that when Centre under the Prime Minister was determined to solve the vexed Naga political issue, unity of all Nagas should be the most important prerequisite.
For this, he said all should join hands in support for an early solution and to urge the NPGs to come together. It would take the younger generation forward and once peace is insured, people would have all the opportunity and at the same time secure the state’s economy, he said. Sending across his message, media cell quoted Zeliang as saying: “To start with humble beginning let us be friendly with dustbin and enemy to plastic in our town”.
