Need to take BS&G activities further: Governor

Nagaland governor, La Ganesan asserted the need to take the activities of Bharat Scouts and Guides (BS&G) to the remote and far-flung areas of the state to bring the maximum possible number of youths under its ambit.
According to PRO, Raj Bhavan Kohima, the governor said this while delivering his acceptance speech after being inducted as the chief patron of the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides (NSBS&G) at the induction ceremony held at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima, Friday.
Ganesan said the Bharat Scouts and Guides was a voluntary nonpolitical, educational movement for young people, and also open to all without distinction or origin, race or creed, in accordance with the purpose, principles and method conceived by the founder Lord Baden Powell in 1907.
The governor said the scout guide movement was based on the principles of duty to God, duty to others and also duty to self. He said that Scouting was spread across 216 countries and territories across the world under World Organization of Scout Movement (WOSM) and 152 countries under World Organization of Girl Guide and Girl Scout (WAGGGS).
He said the purpose of the movement was to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals as responsible citizens and as members of the local, national and international communities.
Ganesan expressed happiness and noted that the movement was playing an active and important role in shaping the character of the youth of Nagaland, and contributing to strengthen communal harmony, amenity, secularism so that the state marches a head on the path of progress and prosperity in a peaceful atmosphere.
He called upon the NSBS&G to become ambassadors of peace and spread the virtues of mutual respect and brotherhood in the society.
The new chief patron said he was grateful to have inducted as the chief patron of NSBSG and to be amongst the group of scouts & guides of Nagaland.
Earlier, State Organizing Commissioner (Scout) John Tochimong inducted the 14th Chief Patron NSBSG in presence of the officials during the ceremony.
Advisor, Youth Resource and Sports and president NSBSG, S. Keoshu Yimkhiung, who delivered the keynote and welcome address, also presented the chief patron medallion to the governor.
The programme was attended by commissioner and secretary YRS Wezope Kenye, officials from school education, districts officials and other dignitaries. State Commissioner (Scout) NSBSG V.K Shah delivered the vote of thanks. The ceremony was compered by the State Organizing Commissioner (Guide), Vimezhonu.
