NEIDA organizes pig health camps

Series of pig health camps were conducted in 28 villages of Kiphire, Tuensang and Phek districts. The health camp is one of the activities under a project implemented by the North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) and its partners, Eleutheros Christian Society and Chakhesang Women Welfare Society with funding support from Tata Trusts.
The project aims at improved piggery management practices in rural Nagaland to enable the farmers to earn additional income. The pig health camps had been held on a regular basis in the project villages to control pig diseases and thus reduce the risk of losing pigs to diseases. Through this initiative it was expected that 10,000 households in selected blocks of Tuensang, Kiphire and Phek would be able to substantially improve their income from piggery.
Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, GoN provided support and supplied swine fever vaccines for the health camps. Personnel from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and ATMA of all three districts also extended support in successfully completing the pig health camps. The health camps were held between the months of November 2016 to January 2017.
More than 2000 pigs received various treatments such as vaccination against swine fever, parasites, skin diseases etc.
