Elaborating that literacy rate in Nagaland has gone up to 79.55 percent within the span of 200 years, which is higher than the national average, Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio however said that the quality of education was yet to prevail in its true sense.
Rio said this while addressing the 68th general session of the Chakhesang Students’ Union cum Sükrenye celebration at Sakraba village on January 14in Phek district.
Rio also challenged the students to seek realistic knowledge and urged them to have work culture. He also suggested them to pursue studies in technical education and get to know the latest technologies as everything nowadays tended to be technology oriented. He has lauded the Chakhesang for their consistency in preservation of culture and tradition which he said is the need of the hour.
“Chakhesang are reckoned as backward tribe but the most progressing tribes in Nagaland,’ Rio added.
Earlier, Rio unveiled the monolith of 68th general session of Chakhesang Students’ Union.
He was accompanied by the Parliamentary Secretary Deo Nukhu, SP Phek Rukuwelo, General Secretary Naga Hoho Mutsikhoyo Yhobu, ADC Phek K Mero and other officials.
The programme was chaired by Thupukutho Lohe, while the invocation prayer was said by pastor of Sakraba Baptist Church, Kuduhuto, and the welcome address was delivered by organizing Committee convener Kuzhovesa Soho. The presidential address was delivered by CSU president Seve R Vadeo, and cultural presentation by Zapami Students’ Union. Joseph Nguri, NSF vice president, also spoke on the occasion while the benediction was pronounced by Vezotha Vadeo.
