The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) concluded its week-long Students Training and Academic Readiness (STAR) programme on May 29, for Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students.
Designed to bridge academic learning and real-world fieldwork, the STAR programme focused on core social work principles, including leadership, goal-setting, community engagement, and field practicum.
Students were oriented on NEISSR’s mission, values, and professional expectations in social work.
The final session featured assistant professor, Vizosü Kikhiwho led an interactive module on social analysis using Problem Tree Analysis, a tool used to examine root causes and effects of community issues. Students also participated in a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), identifying key social challenges and exploring practical solutions.
In addition, students reflected on personal and academic aspirations through a goal-setting exercise aimed at enhancing self-awareness and motivation.
The programme was chaired by Saziini Chache, with resource inputs from Dr. Fr. C.P. Anto (Principal), Rev. GL Khing (Vice Principal), and NEISSR faculty members.
