A week- long STAR (Student Training and Academic Readiness) Orientation Programme for new Master of Social Work (MSW) trainees organised by North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) concluded on July 19.
Rev. Fr. Kokto Kurian, NCYM director and former NEISSR vice principal, addressed the students, stressing that social work is more than a profession—it is a movement for justice and transformation. He urged students to follow ethical field-based practices. Sessions were led by NEISSR faculty and alumni working in health, education, child protection and policy. Speakers included Matsunginla (Vitamin Angels), Longngan K. Phom (AFHC counsellor, Civil Hospital Dimapur), Yomakumba Ao (Antarang Foundation), Manngoi S. (Protection Officer, DCPU Chümoukedima), and Sebi Chacko (Don Bosco Job Placement Network, AIDA).
Topics covered included fieldwork supervision, ethical standards, social work settings, and NEISSR’s mission and values. The orientation aimed to equip trainees for academic and professional readiness in the field of social work.
