The Students’ Council for Social Change (SCSC), a students’ council body of NEISSR, kicked off its 9th annual sports meet under the theme ‘Beyond the Game’ at Peace Centre with Veni Vese, the addl. deputy commisioner of police, Chumoukedima, was the special guest during the inaugural function.
Special Guest addl DCP Veni Vese, spoke on the importance of sports and games on the lives of students. He said A beautiful game can only happen when the teams come together and that games and sports teach us both the beauty of failure and winning, beyond what we learn in the class room.
He motivated students to have proper aim in life and to work relentlessly to achieve it. As students embark to polish their skills and knowledge it is imperative for students to also cater to their spiritual wellbeing, as this aspect help a person not just to survive but to thrive in a cut throat competitive world, also a core essential to become a better human being. Touching upon unregulated time screen, he urged students to be self-disciplined in utilizing gadets; to use it to build their skills and take advantage of it to advance their career. He also exhorted students to strive towards excellence and learn how to take optimum advantages of the facilities available in the institute.
Principal, NEISSR, Dr.Fr. C.P. Anto, who also stressed on the theme of the sports meet ‘Beyond the Game’ said the three days of sports meet will enable students to go beyond games in developing their personality and competency. He added that determination and focus will help them achieve the task of going beyond the game and each student must come out of their comfort zone to achieve something.
In his welcome address, James Phanungkiu, President,SCSC, who spoke on the theme, ‘Beyond the Game’ said games and sports bring people together and helps and individual beyond just shaping their physical attributes, but also learn important life skills like team work, communication and inter-intra personal relationship.
Other highlights were a song by Lumtsula Elizabeth, 4th semester MSW, oath taking ceremony was facilitated by Thungkomo Yanthan, games and sports secretary,SCSC and invocation by Rev. Fr. Lawrence Khing, vice principal, NEISSR.
The 9th Annual Sports Meet 2024 kicked started with flame lighting ceremony by the special guest. The program was moderated by Vinika Aye Yajemtsungang.
