Nerhema and Tseminyu villages celebrated golden jubilee of the peace treaty signed between the two villages on March 7, 1973, at a programme followed by meet and jubilee feast at Chiephobozou Local Ground, some 28 kms away from the state capital on Wednesday.
In a short speech, vice principal, NEISSR Dimapur, Rev Fr Gwayhunlo Lawrence Khing reminded the people that people from the two villages should maintain cordial relations through the treaty.
He said when the Lord binds people together there cannot be any differences and that the celebration was like Christmas for the people of the two villages.
Khing said back in those days every village had warriors who could fight and protect the village from enemies, however, time has changed and now it was the time for peace.
He pointed out that the gathering was a testament to the people’s longing for peace and was a proud moment for the people celebrating goodness among two villages.
He said along with the people even the land, mountains, trees, rivers and stones were celebrating the auspicious day.
Khing urged the people to pray for each other and continue to be rooted in the goodness of God and prosper into great and blessed nations.
Exhorting the gathering, convenor, organising committee, Sevilie Kerhüo said knowing each other among the two village people was of utmost importance.
He said there had been some unhealthy instances in the past however, it was now time to move on and let the past be past.
He observed that after peace treaty was signed and monoliths erected at the two villages in 1973 and 1975 respectively the two villages had expanded and therefore it was important for the younger generations to learn about the importance of the treaty.
He urged the people to revive the old friendship practiced among members of the two villages, make new friends and suggested that youths should also try and make permanent relationship through marriages.
Kerhüo said the village folks should share each other’s burdens, pains and also be part in the joy and good times.
Earlier, the programme wa chaired by co-convenor, organising committee, Jwenga Kent, while director, Asia Soul Winners, Rev G Khing read the scripture and prayed for the celebration.
The jubilee flag was unfurled by president, Nerhema Dieliekevi Liethomia Krotho, Rev Dr Tseibu Rutsa while welcome address was delivered by president, Nerhema Dzevi Houzha, Neisakholie Ziephrü.
A brief history of ancestral covenant between Nerhema and Tseminyu was shared by convenor, souvenir committee, Kegwanye Kent.
Vote of thanks was proposed by president, Tseminyu Union, Kenyuseng Tep and pastor, Nerhema Baptist Church, Rev Vilanyü Üsou pronounced the benediction.
Pastors, catechists and clergyman representing all the churches in tbw two villages pronounced the prayer for the feast. The jubilee choir presented two special numbers during the event.
