NERYC meet for planning its activities

With a view for planning its activities in North East and as preparation for the upcoming National Youth convention, 2010 to be held in Shillong, North East Regional Youth Commission (NERYC) held its two-day meeting on Wednesday at DAN office, 4th mile, Dimapur.
Addressing the meeting as chief guest, Rt. Rev Jose Mukala, DD, Bishop of Nagaland stressed the activities of Youth Ministry in Northeast adding it as satisfactory where lots of programmes have been conducted and projects were implemented.
He said, “These programmes and projects will tell us where there are many areas still to be explored to help the youth and bring the knowledge of faith” and also suggested three goals could be set to minister to the young in guiding the church’s ministry to respond to the needs of young people.
He said the church’s ministry should empower young people to live as disciples of Christ in the present world and explore them what discipleship ultimately means.
He also said the goal of church’s ministry should draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of Christian faith and added that in following the way of love, we called families ‘to create a community of love, to help each other to grow, and to serve those in need.
He further opined total personal and personal growth of each young person should be fostered to promote healthy, competent and faith filled young people also empowered them to live moral and theological virtues which can be applied in making moral decisions.
Speaking on the occasion as guest of honour, Geoffrey Yaden, the Editor of Nagaland Post shared on the scenario of North East India and the unemployment problem in the region. He said even as unemployment was a problem, it was also due to lack of ability and skills that made many unemployable in a growing skilled-based market.
He said youth can do much only through discipline adding Christianity itself means discipline and total obedience to God’s commandments.
Youths must be prepared to work and not expect to be spoon fed he said while dealing with Christian worldview . He exhorted the youth to be witnesses through their lifestyles so that “others would see Jesus in you”. He also said God’s desire was for every Christian to be spiritually prosperous so as to be able to handle material and physical blessings.
In conclusion, he urged the gathering to have an attitude of gratitude towards their elders and teachers and be encouragers for the great commission.
NERCY also welcomed its new director and directress, Rev. Fr. Paul Olphindro and Sr. Bhan and bade adieu to Rev. Fr. Johnson. As a new director of NERYC, Rev. Fr. Paul expressed his dream in formation of spiritual on prayer, to help responsible and working young people to keep them moving ahead who would do miracles and to work with people who can themselves and others. The outgoing director, Rev. Fr. Johnson also urged the youth to prepare with faith for the forthcoming NE youth convention and to live for the service of other.
Meanwhile, NERYC also released a book “Pain and Healing” which compromises of the stories of young people, articles that would inspire some competent and interested individuals in assisting young people who need help and direction.
