New fish species discovered in Nagaland

A fish new to science has been discovered from Dikhu river, Mokokchung, Nagaland and has been named Pethia dikhuensis after the name of the river from where it was discovered.
The research team was led by Limaakum (Principal investigator) from Department of Zoology, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung. The research was sponsored by Higher Education department. The work has also been published in the international journal for taxonomic studies—Zootaxa.
In a press note, Limaakum said that the project was ongoing and more fishes were being identified for which the results are awaited.
The research team thanked the department of Higher Education for sponsoring the project works and also Principal, Kohima Science college Dr. Temjenwabang for his sincere encouragement and support in pursuing the research.
