A new genus of Horsehair worms (Nematomorpha) has been discovered from Viswema village under Kohima district Nagaland by Dr. Arun K. Yadav, department of Zoology, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong , Dr. Andreas Schmidt-Rhaesa Zoological Museum, University Hamburg, Germany and Dr Limatemjen department of Zoology, Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, Nagaland.
The specimen was collected by Bazule Toso of P-Khel Viswema Village under Kohima district The new finding has been published in the latest issue of Zookeys 643: 53–61 (2017), one of the leading International journals of animal taxonomy published on January 5 2017.
This species of the genus Beatogordius reported for the first time in India. It has been named after the state called “Beatogordius nagalandis sp. n.” and this genus has an interesting geographic distribution as all the 21 species currently known under the genus are mostly distributed in South America, Africa, and Madagascar, with further reports from Aus¬tralia and China. With the exception of China, the genus shows a perfect Gondwana distribution and the long time suspected occurrence in India is now confirmed.
