A new political group styling itself as the “Government of Naga National Council – Democratic Socialist Republic of Nagaland (GNNC-DSRN)” has announced its formation with the stated objective of fighting corruption and promoting transparency in governance.
According to the statement issued by president John Chakhesang, corruption has become one of the greatest threats to the future of the Nagas. He alleged that funds meant for public welfare have been misused, diverted, or siphoned off without accountability, roads and bridges collapse within months of construction, and public works are rarely executed according to proper specifications.
Even after filing multiple RTIs, no concrete answers are given to the people, leaving citizens helpless and frustrated, he said.
He said that they felt the need to establish an anti-corruption government in the interest of the Nagas, known as GNNC-DSRN. John said the aim of the government was to provide equal opportunity to every Naga citizen without bias, favoritism, or partiality.
The vision, he claimed was for public money to be utilized transparently and responsibly, development works to meet proper standards, unemployed educated youth to be empowered, and every citizen to be treated equally.
The group called upon young and educated unemployed Nagas to rise up and build a Nagaland free of corruption, injustice, and inequality. With their wisdom and knowledge Nagaland can be shaped into a better place, strictly as proclaimed: Nagaland for Christ.
The group said that the logo of the government—a Star and a Cross—represents the divine blessing given to the Nagas.
The group is headed by John Chakhesang as president, vice president: Kikheto Sumi, general secretary: Kelhoukuolie Angami and finance kilonser: Y. Lotha.
