New IT Bill to be introduced in LS today

NEW DELHI, AUG 9 (AGENCIES)

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday clarified that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will introduce the new Income Tax Bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday, incorporating all changes recommended by the Select Committee and accepted by the government.
Rijiju’s statement came amid media speculation following the withdrawal of the earlier version of the Bill from the Lok Sabha on Friday. Rijiju explained that the new Bill is essentially the same as the earlier one but with all 285 amendments suggested by the Select Committee, chaired by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, integrated into the text.
The government has accepted these recommendations in full.
According to Rijiju, introducing a fresh Bill in such cases is standard parliamentary practice.
“It is a normal convention that when a Select Committee submits a report and there are a number of amendments which are suggested and accepted by the government, the earlier bill is withdrawn and a new bill with all the amendments as accepted is introduced, so that it becomes easier for the Parliament to consider and pass the bill,” Rijiju said.
