New Life Bible College (NLBC) held its 28th Graduation Ceremony at the college Chapel Hall on April 18, with senior pastor of Dimapur Sumi Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Z.K. Rochill, gracing the occasion as the speaker, who also offered dedicatory prayer for the graduating students.
In his address, Rev. Dr. Rochill challenged the graduating students to reflect on their purpose, questioning whether they had pursued theological education merely for a degree or in genuine commitment to serve God.
He urged the graduates to introspect and align their calling with spiritual dedication rather than academic achievement alone.
Sharing his personal testimony, Rev. Dr. Rochill spoke about his past struggles, recalling that he was once a heavy drinker and chain smoker. He attributed his transformation to the prayers of his mother and emphasized that despite facing numerous challenges and health issues, he remained steadfast in his faith.
He further reminded the gathering of the biblical truth which encouraged him, “You did not choose me, I chose you”, underscoring the divine calling in a believer’s life.
The speaker further expressed concern over the growing trend of theologians prioritizing salary over service, stating that true servants of God must be guided by the Holy Spirit.
He also stressed that without the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, meaningful ministry cannot be accomplished.
Rev. Dr. Rochill further lamented that many in theological circles focus excessively on certificates and academic accomplishments, often neglecting the importance of spiritual empowerment. “Academics alone do not serve the Lord”, he asserted, urging the graduates to seek the infilling of the Holy Spirit in their ministry.
Reflecting on the increasing number of prayer centres and theological institutions in the state, he remarked that such growth should ideally correspond with a stronger spiritual environment. He however expressed concern that this was not always the case.
Concluding his address, Rev. Dr. Rochill reminded the graduates that the Word of God calls believers to spread His message in all seasons, encouraging them to remain committed and faithful in their service.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Moabenla, invocation by Jasper Marak, welcome address by director, NLBC, Aboli Wotsa, and scripture reading by Nikki V Assumi and Puloto Phucho.
Conferring of degrees and awards were carried out by the director, principal, and academic dean of the college, while valedictorian speech was delivered by Lady Phine, and benediction by Dr Nonlong Gabriella Achumi.
Altogether 30 students graduated, 8 from Master in Divinity, 20 of Bachelor in Theology, and 2 of Diploma in Theology.
