Abdul Kayum Talukdar (60), Gaon Bura (GB) of New Market, was shot dead by unidentified armed miscreants on Friday night around 9:30 p.m.
The incident occurred near Axis Bank ATM booth in the Signal Basti Shaam Bazaar area.
When contacted, Dimapur District GB Association president Hokuto Zhimomi confirmed that Talukdar was shot dead by unidentified miscreants.
According to sources, the assailants, who arrived in a silver/white car, fired three to four shots at Talukdar’s chest. He was rushed to Faith Hospital but was declared brought dead.
Police sources said investigation was underway, and a combing operation has been launched to apprehend the culprits.
Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) working president Ahidur Rahman expressed shock and condemned the incident. MCD urged the law enforcement arrest the culprits at the earliest.
NMBWC condemns, calls for shutter-down
New Market Business Welfare Committee (NMBWC) under Ward-19 vehemently condemned the brutal murder of their member and GB Abdul Kayum Talukdar.
The committee has also called for shutters-down in New Market on Saturday as a mark of protest.
In a joint statement, GB new Marekt Ward-19 Khekishe Aye, NMBWC president Mughato Sumi, general secretary Shikiho Aye and DMC Ward-19 candidate Kili N Sumi said that the heinous act of fatal domestic violence has not only shocked them but has also raised significant concerns regarding the safety and well-being of the business community in Nagaland.
“The savage and inhumane nature of this crime has left us in a state of profound distress and horror, resonating deeply within our community,” they said.
The committee said that such barbaric actions are intolerable and must be met with swift and decisive justice.
NMBWC urged law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate the atrocity and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay. They stressed the importance of implementing comprehensive measures to protect vulnerable community members and prevent such monstrous acts in the future.
The committee also appealed to all conscientious citizens to join them in condemning the horrific act, emphasizing the need for unity and safety within society. “It is crucial for the unity and safety of our society that we stand together against such violence and work towards fostering a safe and just environment for all,” they added. NMBWC conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family and assured their support in ensuring that justice prevails.
