New terminal to transform Imphal airport operations

Imphal International Airport is set to undergo a major transformation with the construction of a new integrated terminal building that will significantly enhance passenger capacity, infrastructure, and overall efficiency.
According to Newmai news report, the upcoming facility, being executed by Yashnand Engineers and Contractors Pvt. Ltd., will enable round-the-clock operations, extending airport functioning hours from the present 12-14 hours to 24 hours a day. It will also boost passenger handling capacity from 1.39 million passengers per annum (MPPA) to 5 MPPA.
In addition, parking infrastructure will see a substantial expansion, increasing from the current capacity of around 100 vehicles to 1,089 cars in the new integrated terminal complex.
Meanwhile, Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday visited the airport to review the progress of the ongoing construction work.
During the inspection, he was briefed by Airport Authority of India (AAI) civil engineer Deviprasad G. M. on the current status and progress of the project.
Interacting with officials, the chief minister assured that the state government would extend all possible support to ensure timely completion of the terminal. He also inspected the existing Air Cargo Terminal and reviewed its functioning.
Singh was accompanied by chief secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, additional chief secretary (Transport) Anurag Bajpai, commissioner to chief minister N. Ashok Kumar, director transport Kh. Diana Devi, chief engineer PWD Ch. Biswachandra Singh, along with officials of Airport Authority of India.
The new terminal is expected to significantly improve passenger experience and strengthen air connectivity in the region.
Additionally, parking infrastructure will see a major boost, expanding from the existing capacity of around 100 cars to 1,089 cars in the new terminal complex.
