NPCC president K. Therie on behalf of AICC president Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi and rank and file of NPCC extended warm greeting for the new year 2016. Therie reminded, that Sonia had not forgotten when Rajiv Gandhi, while addressing a public rally in Dimapur on May 19,1991 had offered “talks without pre-conditions, if voted to power”. He said as Sonia looked on, the audience “applauded with great joy”.
Though the process might have taken longer than expected, yet “ we have made a beginning” as Nagaland remained close to Sonia’s heart, said Therie.
Drawing a comparison with the two atomic bombs dropped over Hiroshima on August 6,1945 and Nagasaki on August 9,1945, Therie said over two lakh Japanese were killed and Japan continued to suffer the consequences as the impact had not left them even after 60 years. In the context of Nagaland, Therie said Nagas suffer from indecisiveness, political aspiration, disunity, economic drought, indiscipline, disobedience, ego and pretensions and multiple ailments.
He said presently, the “onetime headhunters and invaders” were gripped by fear as people live under multi-governments, multi-administration and multi-judiciaries where they are forced to pay taxes to several ‘governments’. Further, he said unofficially, freedom from extortion, intimidation, assassination and homicide were rife due to ‘government apathy’.
People were also losing freedom of religion, expression, thought and propagation even freedom to eat beef.
He said these ailments were worse than the suffering faced by the Japanese who still have peace, unity, freedom, a corrupt-free governance and freedom of enterprise. He said Japan ranked 20th in the world economic order despite the devastation caused by the atomic bombs. Therie wished that these ailments were healed and to prepare to meet the challenges ahead by having a God-fearing state assembly to determine the future of Nagaland. He said the prime minister does not make the decision as he has no role over a sovereign state but that to let the Lord rise up and shine on people.
