NFHRCC appeals to CM to expedite foothills road project

DIMAPUR:

The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has appealed to Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio to expedite the release of work orders for the second phase of the Nagaland Foothills Road project, also known as the Nagaland People’s Road.
In a press release, the committee expressed gratitude to the chief minister for his continued support to the project since its inception in 2013. The 395.9-km road connects Tizit in Mon district to Khelma in Peren district, passing through eight districts and over 200 villages.
The committee stated that the first phase of the two-lane project under the SASCI loan scheme was nearing completion and urged the chief minister to ensure that work orders for the remaining divisions under the second phase are issued before the onset of the monsoon.
The committee also appreciated PWD (Roads & Bridges) minister Kaito Aye for personally inspecting the ongoing construction at Baghty Division in Wokha district on February 7, 2026, and for extending the deadline to March 31, 2026, with emphasis on quality control. It urged the two erring contractor, along with the departmental technical supervisory team, to adhere strictly to the commitment made before the minister.
Further, NFHRCC called upon MLA of 40 Bhandari A/C, Achumbemo Kikon, to uphold his written commitment to personally monitor and supervise works under his constituency at Baghty Division.
The committee said he had assured that the selected firms possessed the capacity to invest their own resources even in the event of delayed government funding, and urged him to inspect the works to ensure quality standards are maintained.
The committee also appealed to the concerned department to immediately secure the supply of galvanized steel structures for bridge construction firms at Baghty and Peren divisions, and to release requisite funds to enable timely completion of works without external pressures.
It further appreciated contractors who have completed works in Niuland, Tuli, Longleng and Naginimora divisions, and expressed hope that upgradation works in Tizit Division would be completed within the extended deadline.
NFHRCC also acknowledged organisations including Ao Senden, Lotha Hoho, Lotha Lower Range Students’ Union, Aggrieved Foothills Road Forum–Bhandari & Changpang Area, Northern Sumi Community Dimapur and Sangtam Union Dimapur for voicing support for early completion of the project.
