NFHRCC suspends work in Mon sector

Nagaland Foothill Road Construction Committee (NFHRCC) has decided to temporarily suspend the ongoing project in Mon sector with effect from February 19.
The decision to suspend the construction project was taken at the marathon meeting of NFHRCC on February 14.
Citing reasons, NFHRCC said the Konyak Union (KU) voluntarily withdrew from the NFHRCC in 2014 without assigning any valid reasons. It said KU also de-recognized its affiliated units in Dimapur and Chumukedima on account of the fact that the representatives from the two concerned KU units had not withdrawn from the NFHRCC.
It said KU, without intimation to the committee, launched the foothill road construction at Mon sector on December 22. NFHRCC said the committee proposed for a ‘goodwill mission’ cum consultative meeting at Mon sector along with KU, Phom People’s Council (PPC) and ENPO but the same was not welcomed by KU.
It also said the Committee had given time to the representatives of the Konyak tribe to work out some remedial measures but the same could not work out positively.
Subsequently in order to avoid the temporary suspension, the committee once again granted 7 days to the Konyak tribe representatives to hammer out a congenial atmosphere. However, the same turned out to be a fruitless exercise.
Finally on February 11, the committee once again requested the KU to the meeting held on February 14, which was published in the media as well as officially sending a communiqué to the KU in this regard which was not responded to.
Stating that KU chose to ignore advanced made by NFHRCC despite of all efforts and endeavors, the Committee said it has no option left but to temporarily suspend the ongoing project at Mon sector with effect from February 19 till an amicable understanding arises between KU and NFHRCC.
