
Acting promptly on a request from the State government, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has placed 10 Covid care isolation coaches at railway station here.
Each coach is having 16 beds equipped with all necessary hygienic arrangements and medical facilities like provision for oxygen cylinders to provide medical attention to patients referred to by the State health department for admission.
As reported in the Nagaland Post on May 1, chief secretary J Alam had written to Railway Board chairman and CEO Suneet Sharma on Saturday with a request to provide 10 Covid care coaches at Dimapur railway station to cope with the surging number of Covid positive cases in Nagaland.
NFR placed the 10 coaches in line number 3 of Dimapur station on Sunday with necessary arrangements like proper signage, pathways, ramps, electricity, etc., NFR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Subhanan Chanda
A reception desk will also be provided by the railways, which would be manned by State health department officials to keep records of admitted and discharged patients.
CPRO said that senior railway officials at the headquarters and Lumding division were in touch with State government officials to provide all necessary help. SOP for proper co-ordination between the State government and railways would be followed upon, he added.
It may be mentioned here that to strengthen the capabilities of the nation in the united fight against Covid, the Union ministry of railways has, amongst its multi-pronged initiatives, prepared nearly 4,000 Isolation coaches with almost 64,000 beds.
