Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reported strong operational performance in freight services during December 2025, with Nagaland recording the unloading of 23 freight rakes. The achievement underscores the Railways’ role in ensuring timely supply of essential and non-essential commodities to the state.
According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, across the zone, NFR unloaded a total of 1,287 freight rakes during the month, marking an 8.7% growth compared to 1,184 rakes in December 2024. Commodities transported included FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizers, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, tankers and other goods, efficiently handled at goods sheds across its jurisdiction.
A major share of freight movement was directed to the northeastern states. Assam accounted for 689 rakes, of which 351 carried essential commodities, while Tripura recorded 106 rakes, Arunachal Pradesh 9, Manipur 23, Meghalaya 3, and Mizoram 22.
Beyond the Northeast, West Bengal registered the unloading of 225 rakes and Bihar 187 rakes, further strengthening inter-regional supply chains.
NFR stated that the continuous movement of essential commodities remains vital for meeting daily requirements of the people, while industrial and other goods support economic activities across the region. Close monitoring and coordinated efforts by field units have helped reduce turnaround time and enhance unloading efficiency.
The Railway reaffirmed its commitment to operational excellence, reliability, and its pivotal role in driving socio-economic development across Nagaland, the Northeast, and adjoining regions through efficient freight operations.
