NFR updates on progress of Dhansiri-Zubza rail line

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has informed Nagaland State Transport (NST) department that 98% physical progress has been achieved in Dhansiri-Shukhovi (16.50 km), 24% in Shukhovi-Pherima (28 km) and 2% in Pherima-Zubza (38 km) sections of the new railway line being constructed between Dhansiri and Zubza.

In response to a letter by NST general manager Atovi Kiba Sema requestingquarterly progress report on the Dimapur-Dhansiri-Zubza (Kohima)new railway line construction, NFR stated the project was included in 2006-07, but its progress was adversely impacted due to second wave of Covid-19 and non-availability of industrial oxygen. Estimated to cost Rs 700 crore, land acquisition in the Dhansiri-Sukhovi section has been completed and its target date for commission has been fixed as October 2021.

The second phase, which is the Sukhovi-Pherimasection, has been estimated to cost Rs 2,052 crore and its land acquisition too has been completed. 

According to the NFR letter, one of the tunnels (no.-1; 3484 m) is on critical path and 934 m tunnel work is in progress. March2023 has been fixed as the target date for commissioning Phase-II.

The project cost of the Pherima-Zubza section, which is Phase-III, is Rs 4,159 crore, and its land acquisition too has been completed. Tunnel no.-7; 6.61 m was falling on critical path and March 2026 has been fixed as the target date of commissioning of Phase-III, the letter added.
