DIMAPUR: Nagaland Gaonburas Federation (NGBF) has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the unprecedented monsoon rainfall that triggered massive landslides and flash floods across the state, resulting in the tragic loss of nine lives, injuries to many others, and widespread destruction, particularly in Mon district.
In a press release, NGBF stated that the devastating landslides swept away numerous houses, rendering thousands homeless.
Several affected areas remain cut off due to damaged roads, disrupted electricity and communication networks, while urgent needs for food, drinking water, shelter and medical assistance continue to grow. It added that although many mountainous regions of the state were impacted, Mon district suffered the most extensive devastation, with Tuensang district also experiencing severe damage.
NGBF expressed sincere appreciation to the prompt response of the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), district administrations, security forces and all rescue agencies engaged in relief and rehabilitation efforts. It also commended Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for personally visiting the affected areas to supervise and monitor relief operations, demonstrating compassionate leadership during this difficult time.
The Federation appealed to all tribal hohos, civil society organisations, churches, charitable institutions and compassionate citizens to extend generous financial and humanitarian assistance to affected families, stressing that collective support and solidarity are essential to help victims rebuild their lives.
NGBF conveyed heartfelt condolences to bereaved families who lost loved ones in the calamity and prayed that Almighty God grant them strength and comfort in their time of sorrow. It also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and for the safety and well being of all those affected.
