Nagaland GB Federation (NGBF) has urged the Government of India and the NSCN-K (Ang Mai-Mülatonu) to sign ceasefire agreement in order to seek a comprehensive and lasting solution to the “Indo-Naga-Myanmar political issue.”
In a press release, NGBF president Sahlem Konyak and general secretary Shikuto Zalipu said there cannot be multiple or stage-wise solutions to what was “essentially a single, unified political issue.”
The federation also said that Naga issue cannot be resolved by dividing the Nagas through separate dialogues. Stating that Nagas have had enough of bloodshed, NGBF said it was high time for peace and a long-lasting solution in the region.
Asserting it had consistently played a role in promoting peace, the NGBF called upon both the Government of India and NSCN-K (Ang Mai-Mülatonu) to act with maturity and a sense of responsibility.
“A bilateral cease-fire between the two is crucial for achieving the enduring peace and political resolution that the Nagas have long yearned for,” NGBF said.
Citing “reliable sources”, NGBF said several rounds of formal and informal meetings have already taken place between the two parties regarding a potential cease-fire.
In this regard, NGBF appealed to both sides “to finalize this bilateral cease-fire” without further delay so as to not only to stabilize the situation in Naga-inhabited areas, but also to secure peace and stability across the wider Northeast region of India.
