NH-2 diversion: KVC demands repair of road, water pipelines

DIMAPUR, JUL 29 (NPN)

Kezoma Village Council (KVC) has demanded the responsible authorities to repair the damage cased to Kezoma village water pipelines and roads due to diversion of traffic through Kezoma following the sinking of NH-2 stretch (Kohima to Mao Gate) at Phesama.
In a representation submitted to the DC Kohima through EAC Kezocha sub-division, the Kezoma village council reminded that DC through order dated June 1, 2025 issued travel advisory for vehicles (LMVs) bound for southern regions/ Manipur to take the alternative route via BSF camp-Chakhabama-Kezoma Town-Kezo Basa-Kezoma-Kidima-Viswema-Mao gate.
KVC said that the said diversion caused severe damage to the village’s critical water infrastructure.
It said two main pipelines had been extensively damaged due to the continuous plying of vehicles, particularly the heavy vehicles. The council said the damage was highly extensive in the stretch between Kidima (Prayer park) and Kezoma village (Local ground), covering approximately 2-3 km.
As a result, KVC said the village was currently left without any water supply.
Despite the order dated June 1 restricting the movement of heavy vehicles, KVC said the said order was not implemented effectively as heavy vehicles continue to ply causing further degradation of the already fragile road and making it difficult for LMVs to travel.
In the light of the above, KVC has urged the DC to direct the concerned departments to repair and restore the damaged water pipelines immediately. It suggested that the concerned authority explore and execute the laying of a new and alternate pipeline route, away from the main road, so as to prevent further damage.
KVC also sought necessary financial and logistical assistance under the disaster management or emergency relief funds, considering the nature and damage caused by sudden diversion of route and aggravated by heavy
It urged the DC to ensure necessary maintenance and restoration of the damaged road to ensure safe passage for LMVs and for convenient movement of the villagers.
Further, KVC urged DC to strictly implement the standing order dated June 1 by completely restricting the movement of heavy vehicles along the alternate route.
