State government has issued travel advisory in the wake of the mudslide/landslides at Pherima and Chumoukedima to ensure availability of essential commodities and the smooth movement of people between Kohima and Dimapur.
An advisory issued by the home department informed that the following alternative routes for movement of vehicles could be used by commuters: Light vehicles as well as heavy vehicles from Dimapur to move along the 7th Mile NH-29-Sukhovi-Mhainamtsi-Jharnapani road; light vehicles to move along the Showuba-Nuiland-Zhadima-NH 2 road; light vehicles could use the New Chumoukedima to Old Chumoukedima (Old Check Gate) road.
Further, all light as well as heavy vehicles bound for Tseminyu, Wokha, Mokokchung, Zunheboto etc from Dimapur could use Peducha-Tsiesema road.
The government stated that time slots for movement of vehicles, if any, could be decided by the respective district administration(s).
The government has requested all the travellers to cooperate and use the mentioned alternative routes to ensure smooth and uninterrupted movement of goods and people within the State
DC Kohima issues travel advisory: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima Kumar Ramnikant, has also issued a travel advisory to ensure the continued supply of essential commodities and fuel to the district.
DC Kohima has provided two alternate routes for vehicles carrying essential supplies to Kohima: Route 1—Jorhat-Mariani-Tsutapela Nagaland Gate-Tsurangkong-Longtho-Longnak-Changki-Chungtia-Mokokchung-VK-Wokha-Tseminyu-Kohima and Route 2—Merapani-Bhandari-Baghty-Sanis-Doyang Bridge-Wokha-Tseminyu-Kohima (for vehicles weighing up to 10 tonnes).
DC said above routes have been designated to ensure that the supply of essential commodities and fuel remained uninterrupted despite the ongoing disruption on NH-29. The district administration has urged transporters to adhere to the travel advisory and utilize the identified routes to maintain a steady flow of goods to Kohima.
For light motor vehicles, DC has suggested taking the Niuland-Zhadima (10th IR Camp) -10th Mile Junction. Dimapur police issue advisory on alternate routes: Commissioner of Police (CP) Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, has issued an urgent advisory urging people against using the alternate Pimla – Mhainamtsi route for travel between Kohima and Dimapur as it was also affected by mudslides and landslides.
For those willing to travel, CP said Niuland-Kohima route via Zhadima remained open for light motor vehicles only. However, DC said heavy vehicles were prohibited from using the route due to safety concerns.
CP urged travellers to take extreme precautions during the ongoing adverse weather conditions and to plan their journeys accordingly.
DC Niuland issues help desk numbers: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Niuland has informed that alternate route from Niuland to Kohima via. Ghotovi – Zhadima was open to vehicular movement for small and light passenger vehicles.
However, DC said that due to narrow width of the road and weak culverts along the route, movement of heavy vehicles would remain restricted at all-time along that route.
