Noting with concern that some elements are trying to derail its smooth functioning by using the name of a Naga national organisation and asking some of its federal units not to attend Federal Assembly, Naga Hoho has resolved unanimously to continue striving for the cause and interests of Naga people.
In a consultation meeting held at Hotel Vivor, Kohima on Thursday, the members also contended that with the withdrawal of Ao Senden and Sumi Hoho from Naga Hoho, any official belonging to the two tribes ceases to be a member of organisation.
Therefore, it was decided that the concerned executives must resign from their respective posts in consonance with the constitution and on moral ground.
Though it was originally scheduled as a Federal Assembly, the members present agreed to convert the assembly into a consultative meeting in view of the absence of some officials and federating units.
The House regretted the dissent among Naga Hoho office bearers vis-à-vis calling of Federal Assembly, though it agreed that the speaker’s summon of the assembly was justified as office bearers had been failing to fulfil their constitutional obligations as enshrined in Yezabo Article 6 clause 4 under which the Federal Assembly has to be held at least twice a year. But, the members noted after the last assembly on September 28, 2016 no assembly was convened.
Further, the meeting felt that the necessity of the speaker to consult the president for convening the assembly did not arise as the executive council meeting of October 31, 2017 had requested both the president and vice-president to demit their offices on the ground that their respective tribe organisations viz., Ao Senden and Sumi Hoho had dissociated from Naga Hoho. And the Yezabo clearly explains holding of posts in Naga Hoho vide Article 18 clause 1.
Besides, four federating units of Naga Hoho – Chakhesang Public Organisation, Angami Public Organisation, Puchury Hoho and Rengma Hoho – had on the same ground questioned the legitimacy of the president and vice-president’s letter addressed to the speaker, dated 29/9/2017, the members observed.
In the executive council meeting, the four organisations had made their stand explicitly clear that they would not cooperate unless their contention was addressed. Besides, officials of Naga Hoho present also reiterated that they stood by the executive council meeting resolution that “unless the president and vice-president demit office, the executives shall resign en mass”.
Earlier, subsequent to an invocation prayer by Naga Hoho finance secretary Rungutuo Sechu, Mutsikhoyo Yhobu was appointed as session secretary to conduct proceedings of the House. This was stated in a statement by speaker Kenyuseng Tep and session secretary Yhobu.
